Training components

Supportive Family TrainingĀ is a series of classes for the families and carers of persons with serious psychiatric disabilities.

These classes are part of a family educational model that has demonstrated its effectiveness with hundreds of families and carers of the mentally ill for over 20 years.

The major components of the training are:

  1. Information about schizophrenia & other major affective disorders
  2. Coping & management skills
  3. Listening & communication techniques
  4. Problem solving
  5. Instruction in self-care
  6. Information about medications
  7. Information about community supports
  8. Assistance in connecting with appropriate community services
  9. Advocacy training

The supportive family training model is organised around an 11 week schedule.
